Tips for Winterizing Your Home for 2023

Time flies when you’re enjoying your beautiful new Infinity Custom home. The wonderful magic of Pittsburgh winter is on its way! While we certainly love fall here, we’re looking forward to welcoming Pennsylvania’s snowy wonderland. As the season approaches, you’re probably already looking to indulge in all of the local outdoor activities, cozy fun, and wintry sights in your community. Before you do, we wanted to share some ways to winterize your Infinity Custom home with a few maintenance tasks.

Safety First: Check your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. Replace the batteries and test the units. Buy a fire extinguisher or replace the one you have if it is over 10 years old.

Protect Your Pipes: One of the best ways to prevent frozen and burst pipes is to practice basic energy conservation in your home. Here are a few tips and tricks to keep your pipes safe.

Prep Your HVAC System: Have an HVAC Professional inspect and clean the furnace and ducts. Change the furnace filter. Make sure heating vents have no obstacles in front of them. Set the humidifier for winter.

Lower Your Thermostat: While your smart thermostat learns your personal habits and sets itself, try to set it a little bit lower than you normally would (and dress more warmly while you’re home) to reduce your energy bills even further.

Weatherstrip Doors and Windows: In order to reduce your energy bills (and stay as comfortable as possible), make sure to check the weatherstripping on your doors and windows, and replace worn weatherstripping.

Pack Up Outdoor Furniture: Although it’s hard to say goodbye to outdoor living, it’s time to pack up the furniture on your patio, porch or deck. Keeping your furniture stored properly and away from the frigid temperatures and snow means everything will be in tip-top shape when the warm weather returns.

Redecorate: Believe it or not, your home’s decor can help you winterize, too. Replacing light, summer drapes with heavier ones, and putting down thick rugs on the floor work wonders when it comes to insulation. This is a great chance to give your Infinity Custom home a new aesthetic for winter!
