Holiday Activities in Allegheny County

Twinkling lights, sweet scents, festive cheer… it’s the most wonderful time of the year! Around your new Infinity Custom home in the Pittsburgh area, fun-filled adventures await you and your family to celebrate the season and connect with your community. From holiday lights and displays to shows and shopping markets, there are tons of holiday activities to enjoy in Allegheny County.

Western Pennsylvania Model Railroad Museum

Though it’s not necessarily holiday-themed, this incredible museum is only open for visitors during the holidays and is a great place to spend time. The Western Pennsylvania Model Railroad offers a roundtrip ticket to the 1950s. You’ll find train models that follow a track to favorite spots from Pittsburgh to Cumberland like Pittsburgh’s incline, the rapids at Ohiopyle, and the beautiful countryside.

A Christmas Show

Throughout the holiday season, Pittsburgh’s Cultural District really showcases what it means to get into the holiday spirit. This historic location features an array of performances and activities. Enjoy endless entertainment with Christmas Carol by the Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera and The Nutcracker by Pittsburgh ballet performers. In addition, there are a ton of other performing troupes, like The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra’s Holiday Pops, that create exciting shows that vary from season to season.

Light Up Night

Each year, Light Up Night begins the holiday celebrations across Allegheny County. It’s a full day of tree lightings, live music, markets with all things Christmas, and so much more. A major highlight of this event is the fireworks shows throughout the evening. The shows take place in various spots, but the finale can be seen from the North Shore river trail on the Allegheny River. Don’t forget to visit throughout the event for all of the other entertaining festivities.

Christmas Displays of Downtown Pittsburgh

It’s a wonderful sight to see all of the Christmas lights and displays in downtown Pittsburgh. The Market Square is turned into the Christmas Market. It really is the place to be for all of your holiday shopping with vendors selling holiday and local wares. You’ll also find beautiful window displays in the windows along the walkway that connects PPG Place and Market Square. There’s a unique collection of international Santa figurines to view in the windows, too. If you’re not too cold to stay outside, you must check out the Point State Park Christmas tree and the Unity Tree in Highmark.

Holiday Lights (Drive-Thru Edition)

In the chilling Pennsylvania weather, it’s nice to know there are still options to enjoy the twinkling lights of the holidays. You don’t even have to get out of the car to experience them. Drive-thru light experiences can be found all throughout Pittsburgh. Some options include Shadrack’s Christmas Wonderland in Butler, the Zoo’s Holiday Lights exhibit, and Oglebay’s Festival of Lights. Take a peek from the car at North Park’s laser show too!
